Ketchikan finds itself at the southern tip of the Inside Passage, often the first glimpse of Alaska’s beauty as travelers head north into the state. Its colorful boardwalk and two main harbors are just the beginning of Ketchikan. Explore Ketchikan’s Waterfront Promenade, but know more adventure awaits throughout and beyond the city.
totem Poles
Home to the largest collection of totem poles in the world, you can wander to just about anywhere in Ketchikan to view a totem pole. Try the Totem Heritage Center or Totem Bight State Historical Park.
Misty Fjords National Forest
Misty Fjords is about 40 miles (64 km) east of Ketchikan, Alaska, along the Inside Passage. It comprises more than two million (928 ha) of Tongass National Forest in Alaska's panhandle. Get here by small boat or float planes.
Creek Street
The historic Creek Street is a boardwalk with shops, restaurants, museums and some of the best salmon viewing in Ketchikan. A couple trails, like Married Man's Trail, lead to Creek Street.
Float Plane Tour
Other than by water, some of the best views in Southeast Alaska are seen by flight-seeing tours. Fly over some incredible sights you definitely can't see from the shoreline. There are many options to choose from in Ketchikan.
Eat from the sea
We're the salmon capital of the world for a reason. Treat yourself to some fresh, wild-caught salmon or go fish for the many offerings from the sea. Charters take travelers out for a fresh catch, but if fishing isn't your thing dine out or cook your own in the rental's fully equipped kitchen.
